The China Vine

Field notes on Chinese wine, vineyards and journeys.

The China Vine is an English-language publication on the wine regions, estates and travel of contemporary China. Field reportage, terroir analysis, winemaker profiles, and the practical routes you can actually walk.

Eight regions. More than thirty winery stories. Five canonical routes, all verified on the ground.

The writing is for the curious wine drinker who knows Bordeaux and Burgundy but has been waiting for someone to explain China.

Wine Routes

Five canonical routes — Ningxia (3–5 days), Hebei from Beijing (1–3), Gansu Silk Road (5–7), Yunnan Himalayas (5–7), Northeast ice harvest (Dec only).

Every region and route here can be travelled. The China Vine is published by Journey X (简兮旅行), the Shanghai-based travel company that has operated wine itineraries through these regions since 2020.
